Biography :

Home town given as Coalville. Served with the 1/5th Bn in World War One. Awarded the Military Medal (L.G. 16.8.1917) "At 'Fosse 3', LiƩvin, near Lens, France on the night 8/9 June 1917, when the left of the Battalion was held up by heavy machine gun and trench mortar barrage, this man went forward and carried out some extremely good patrol work, reporting on the positions of the enemy posts. During this work he brought in, under fire, a sergeant who had been badly wounded. Later, when this man's own Company was held up, he, on his own initiative, made a sniper's post in the top of a house, and himself killed several of the enemy. On previous occasions this man has shown great coolness under fire and great initiative."
He died in 1955, aged 72 years.
